The Course Materials Corner with Dr. Mike Moore
As you are reading this today, I am getting ready for two incredible presentations at the National Association of College Auxiliary Services conferencein Orlando. I will be presenting the importance of nurturing and looking after your Equitable Access course materials program with a continued focus on affordability. Equitable Access programs are not crockpots; you can’t simply set them and forget them. They require tending like an award-winning garden.
The other presentation will be about new research on Equitable Access from a student outcome perspective and a sustainability perspective. The focus is three-pronged: People, Planet, Profit. Unfortunately, sustainability is not scalable without the element of profit.
The new Equitable Access study used Interrupted Time Series and Multilevel Regression to analyze the impact on student outcomes in a pre/post environment. With respect to student outcomes, there were two important findings: 1) Overall, students were 12% more likely to achieve a letter grade of C or better post-implementation and 2) Where the course modality was face-to-face, students were 9% more likely to achieve a letter grade of C or better post-implementation. This study has opened a whole new line of inquiry for us as a research team that we are looking forward to applying to future research.
If you are going to be at NACAS C3X, make sure you stop by Lafatette 4/5 at 1:45pm today (10/29) for our session titled Equitable Futures: UIW’s Sustainable Course Material Model. If you cannot be there, I look forward to seeing you in the next edition of The EdTech Pulse.
